Birds in Tuxedos

Penguins look like chubby little guys in black and white tuxedos.  They never leave their world of ice and snow in Antarctica, the South Polar region, unless someone captures them for a zoo exhibit.  The penguin is a bird that cannot fly, a sea bird that is extremely quick and graceful in the water.

Mr. Worth E. Shoults shows us photos of penguins in their native ice and describes their lives in Artarctica's Most Interesting Citizen: The Comical Penguin is Both Romantic and Bellicose, National Geographic Magazine, February, 1932.

Penguins eat a type of red shrimp found in Antarctic waters. Their only natural enemy seems to be seagulls.

This was a short, pleasant article, perhaps the only article whose black-and-white photos wouldn't be improved by color!
